The fire took place 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at 250 Smith Ridge Road in Lewisboro, said New York State Police spokesman Trooper AJ Hicks.

According to Hicks, the Lewisboro Police Department and state police responded to the area for a report of a man running through the neighborhood. Upon arrival, it was discovered that a residence was engulfed in flames.

The South Salem Fire Department, as well as adjacent fire departments, responded to extinguish the flames.

The homeowner, identified by state police as 58-year-old Stephen McMahon, was found suffering from burn wounds in the nearby woods. McMahon became combative with EMS personnel and was taken into custody in order to provide needed medical care, Hicks said.

McMahon was transported to Westchester Medical Center.
